Crysis Warhead DRM problems. EA: "Working on a solution"
Crysis Warhead was released today, containing the ridiculous SecuROM anti-piracy measures used on Spore. The people are getting pissed EA, including me. Is a boycott in order? Or are EA actually doing something to help us out here?
Hit the jump for the info
The DRM that was used on Spore, is being used on Crysis. No big shock there I think that most people expected that. What has shocked PC fans everywhere is that Steam (yes you read me correctly, the holier than thou digital download service is helping EA with their frankly ridiculous licensing regulations). Overclockers.net has a boycott going on in their forums right now that you can join if you wish.
Overclockers.net forum user, Shin2k35, posted this [below] last week and has had 17 pages worth of replies.
“I'm boycotting EA's upcoming games until they remove the three/five install limit.
I'm perfectly ok with having to have the CD in the computer to play a game, even though it makes no sense, but limiting my installs is just god damn insulting as a paying customer.
We, the undersigned, will not buy another EA game on any platform until they remove this insulting and negative restriction of digital rights.”
User alex98uk received this email [below] earlier today promising a solution to the problem. We are waiting EA. We are waiting.
“Hi guys,
Please find attached additional information on the Warhead DRM and
Securom situation. He believes it is not under NDA, therefore OK to re-post.
Thanks,
Eddy
Introduction
As you will be aware by now we released an F.A.Q.
<http://www.mycrysis.com/newsdetails.php?news=29380> explaining far
more details about the DRM that is used on Crysis Warhead. Following on
from the information we gave you last night we're also pleased to be
able to tell you that EA have sent us the following message to pass on
to you guys:
quote:
"EA is expediting development of a system that will allow consumers to
de-authorize machines and move authorizations to new machines. This
system will effectively give you direct control to manage your
authorizations between an unlimited number of different machines without
having to contact EA customer service."
Conclusion
Please keep in mind that we cannot commit to a specific time frame or
give you a date on when this will be available, but it is definitely
being worked on.
We hope that this will really keep you guys happy and that you can
understand that we have been listening to your concerns and are trying
to make as much progress as possible to help you all out as best we can.
