Spore Review

Spore is big. That’s an understatement. Spore is enormous. With well over 1 billion different ways to build your; creature; building; car; cell, and literally thousands of planets (that I can see so far) to explore and dominate, I can almost guarantee that you will never finish this game. Ever.  You may have read some negative reviews about the game, I am not sure that it is fair to give this game a review.  I don’t see it as a game in its own right.  It is certainly a fantastic feat of software engineering, with some graphics, and gameplay features. A game, it is not. A game requires some kind of reason to be there, a pre-determined path that you need to traverse to arrive at one (or possibly many) endings. In Spore there is no path, you do not have to get to the end of any road, you don’t need to start at the start, or even the middle, so why do I want to play it more? Because that is what Will Wright, and his studio, do best: They make addictive pieces of software.  All I can do is describe the game for you, and hope that you understand why you should own it.

Review: Unreal Tournament III – PC

Unreal was born on the PC.  It’s nice to see that Epic, and Midway, remember that is where it should be best.  Unreal was always supposed to be a beautiful game that played with a high frame rate.  Something that the PS3 and Xbox have done well but, may I tell you, not as good as a mid-range graphics card.  The game is graphically stunning, and runs as smooth as ...  Well, something that is very smooth.

The story line is somewhat missing.  In a Nutshell, you are a commander in the army, and you get thrown in with a guy who sounds like MC Hammer (who is a previous Unreal Champ) because he is good with Spawners. Actually there is practically no story whatsoever.  It makes no sense at all, but I doubt anyone who bought this game was looking for brilliant narrative.
