EXCLUSIVE! NVidia releases a great update, but what has it done to my Windows Experience Score?

News - PC Gaming

Some of you may have noticed that NVidia recently released a great update to their 8x series and higher cards to make them work with PhysX.  Essentially what they have given you is a free PhysX card, something no one expected them to do 'till at least next year!  Fantastic! You can get the update from The Force Within site.

Hit the jump for our exclusive information on what it does to your Windows Experience Score.

Something that you may not notice though, it will change your Windows Experience Score.  If you have Vista, click start and enter (in the search bar) “games explorer” and you will get your Windows Experience score.  It’s a complicated system, but basically gives you an “idiot proof” view of how good your PC is.  If you install the NVidia update, your score could drop by ½ a point, or more, (for anyone unfamiliar with the system my PC went from 5.9 down to 5.5).  Realistically this doesn’t mean anything to anyone who understands their PC, they will know that their PC is still just as technically capable as it was before, for others however (as in the people this system was made for), this could cause a little bit of confusion.  It’s just showing another small fault in Microsoft’s vision of socially acceptable people using the PC to play games.

On a short side note, while you are downloading the update try to get the Folding@Home application.  There should be a Sanctuary4Gamers Folding group up within the week.
