Sins of a Solar Empire Update coming in 2008

News - PC Gaming

Stardock has today announced that Ironclad Games will bring the first of the Sins of a Solar Empire expansions will arrive in late 2008, and won’t cause a rift in the online community.  Hit the jump for the details.

The expansion is promised to include things such as a Starbase Defence Platform, which will let you leave a planet to defend itself while you go out and continue to annihilate another star system with your fleet.  It will also include upgrades for the under-powered turret defence platforms that are already in the game, the Gauss Turret will become long range and more powerful.   New to be introduced to the game will be Mine Fields (can’t wait for that), and a Subspace Inhibitor platform that “will show enemy ships within its range”.   Further announced expansions include more diplomacy and more technology to the in-game fleet for each empire.  Details on this part of the update are sketchy so far.

Stardock also mentioned that the online community won’t be affected at all by the update; with software being put in place so that you can’t afford the expansion other people will still be able to play with you.  The expansion will only be available from the 'Impulse Driven' utility (like Steam, but faster) and will cost $9.95, of just £5 if you live in the UK.  Excellent!  You canpre-order it now.
