News - S4G

So, this is the area where I am supposed to write a section about how much better we are than other community-based gaming websites. Hmmmm.

"So what are you going to do that is different to all other sites?" is the question I kept hearing from people during our time building the site, which is surprisingly difficult to answer. Every man and his dog has a gaming website these days, in fact, I think even my cat has one. There are sites which are sarcastic, there are some that are cranky, some are run by married folk, others are just hardcore, but no matter what the site is, they are all talking about the same stuff. It's the same news regurgitated and spewed out in their own style. So, I am going out on a limb here and say that we too are also going to spew out the same game crap that you see elsewhere.

We have talked amongst ourselves to think about what type of style we have and we came up with one word: 'Sarcastic'. Shit, someone else is using that! So we can't use that. But that is how we think, and you will certainly be seeing some of that in our writing and on our upcoming podcast. More than anything else, we want it to be a laugh.  Life is too short for seriousness.

I suppose I could tell you that the website name came from a me being a castaway as a young child or I could say that I have found God and I feel that he has pulled me into his warm bussom...though I would be lying out of my teeth.  In fact, the name came from an evening on Skype with co-owner and long- time buddy, Steve (aka Monkeychunkuk) and literally slapping any word plus the word 'gamer' into a domain name checker until we found a word that we could get without having to sell a kidney for.  We had a few other good ideas that came up (most of which had rude words), but we thought that the sanctuary idea kinda fitted. There are a lot of gamers, young and old that need a place to check news and not get ribbed and abused for their choice of games or system - here everyone has an equal voice.

The site has taken over a month and half to build and put together and we feel that we now have a decent platform to be able to give you guys gaming news and reviews from all over the world from our writers based in Europe, USA, Canada and Japan.

If you are expecting a 1up or an IGN then you may be a little disappointed, let's be honest those guys do that for a living and we don't. What we can do is try and get you the latest information we can with hopefully a comical twist (keep an eye out for our written reviews). We don't take ourselves seriously, but we do care a great deal about gaming and between the team we probably have around 80-100 years of gaming experience. No, we don't have a 60 year-old gamer on the team, before someone asks.

Feel free to browse, comment on articles and hit the forums. At the moment, we are on sanctuary4gamers 1.0 but there are a lot more features that will be implemented over the coming months. We built this place for you,  so please use it and have fun.
